Life Update

As you may have noticed, I have been pretty quiet this past week. This post is a micro life update on some news that I am excited to share with you!

I have decided to take a job with my alma mater, Wake Forest University. After weighing all my options, looking at the prices in cities such as Washington DC and New York, a move to Winston Salem was the perfect decision for me at this point in my life!

I truly believe that this Southern city has a ton to offer, and I am excited to see it grow. I loved my time here in college, and I am looking forward to expanding my horizons and giving back to a community that has given so much to me!

Fitz and I (along with my saint of a mother) have just begun to move into my new apartment. This weekend will be filled with moving in and sweat, but I am excited to show off my new space. The next few posts will probably focus on my new apartment. I am truly balling on a budget, so stay tuned for how that goes :)

I feel endless support from my great friends and online readers. I am so excited to see how God uses this stage of life to stretch and grow me. I am also looking forward to all of the friends I will make along the way, and my new community.

If you are ever in Winston Salem, please say hello. Fitz and I would love to treat you to a coffee!

Floral Printed Maxi

I am not one who loves maxi dresses, as I feel like they hide my curves.

I saw this dress though and I had to have it! The floral print was such a transitional summer-to-fall print and the slit made it sexy but still classy.

I added a cami because the deep v was a little too much for me, but I also think a bandeau would work great under this!

Unfortunately I bought this dress at a boutique here in San Jose, and it doesn't sell online. I added some similar dresses and sandals below if you would like to get my look!

Cheers to Tuesday! Hope you had a fabulous day :)

Watermelon Margarita

Margaritas are totally my summer drink of choice. Refreshing, easy...they are a no brainer when it comes to summer cocktails!

This one is a super fun and easy recipe. Watermelon is already refreshing, but add some tequila and woohoo!

Watermelon Margarita Recipe:

Taking 1/3 watermelon

Blend in a blender till you get watermelon juice

Add 1/2 cup sparkling water to blender

Add 1/2 tablespoon of simple syrup

1 Cup of Lime

Blend again

Add slice of lime and rim the glass

22 things I have learned in life

Today I turned 22. To be honest, it feels so surreal. Not that 22 is any landmark, but any year you get turns into a landmark.

In honor of my 22nd birthday, I decided to pen 22 things that I have learned thus far:

1) Life is not meant to be lived in a are colorfil and be prideful in that!

2) Call your loved one every day and tell them you love them, because life is short and time is precious

3) Don't sweat the small things

4) You can't plan everything--and that is OKAY

5) Life is short, so buy that pair of shoes

6) People will wrong you

7) And you will wrong others

8) Vulnerability is scary, but it is beautiful

9) You can't fix someone. I learned this the hard way.

10) Little black dresses are always the perfect outfit

11) Everyone brings something different to the table. Embrace difference.

12) There will be days when you feel alone, but remember that you are never alone

13) Heartbreak is the rawest and realest experience of your life, but I promise it does get better

14) You won't be friends with everyone, and guess don't have to be! The beautiful thing about life is that we get to choose. People are created differently, and this means that you won't get along with everyone.

15) You have no idea the shoes someone is walking in...don't try to assume that you do.

16) Sometimes the littlest actions can make the biggest dent in someone's life. You can be someone's lifeboat, ladder, and lamp.

17) Don't settle. It will be easy to settle, but you deserve to get what you want. Along these what you do and do what you love!

18) Crying doesn't make you weak. Being in tuned with your emotions is a beautiful and radical and totally normal thing

19) Wake up every morning and say thank you. Whether it is to God, your soul or whatever power you believe in. The power of gratitude is overwhelming and it has the potential to shape your entire day and life.

20) Treat yourself. We run at high speed and velocity, and sometimes we forget that we need space to breathe. So get the latte, watch reality TV, take a kind to yourself.

21) You won't ever have it all figured out. Nobody fully knows how to do this thing called life, and that is okay.

22) Love yourself, and you will figure out the rest.

Bay Area Must: Savannah Chantelle Winery

I absolutely love having family and friends visit me. I may be a little bias, but I think the Bay Area was the absolute BEST place to grow up in. It is so beautiful, has incredible food, and offers many different things to do, including wine tasting. When my friend Brooke decided to visit me, I took her to a fantastic winery called Savannah Chantelle.

Most people assume that all the wine tasting in the Bay Area happens in Napa, and while many of it does, the South Bay and coast offers some good vineyards.

Savannah Chantelle is nestled in the Santa Cruz mountains, and it offers a really wonderful selection of wines. While they are primarily a red winery (woohoo!) they also had two great chardonnays.

A flight is only $10 and the staff is incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. If you are in the Bay, this is definitely worthy of a day trip.

Hope you are having the most fantastic summer!
